Frequently Asked Questions

What course do I need to complete to start working in the real estate industry?

For new entrants wanting to start working in real estate in Sydney or New South Wales, a Certificate of Registration is required from NSW Fair Trading before you can start work as an Assistant Agent. This will allow you to work in real estate sales, property management, stock and station or strata management, but you must be employed and supervised by the Licensee in Charge of an agency (Class 1 Agent).

What is the difference between a Certificate of Registration and a Class 1 or 2 Real Estate Agent Licence?

The Certificate of Registration is the entry level registration needed before you can work as an Assistant Agent in Sydney or NSW under the supervision of the Licensee in Charge of an agency (who needs to hold a Class 1 Licence).

The maximum term of the Certificate of Registration is 4 years. Within this 4 year period, a Certificate of Registration holder is required to complete the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice qualification and apply for a Class 2 Real Estate Agent Licence (if they want to remain in the industry). Real estate courses NSW offers all the necessary courses to meet these requirements.

A Certificate of Registration holder must have a minimum of 12 months experience working as an Assistant Agent before they can progress to a Class 2 Licence.

A Class 2 Real Estate Agent Licence will allow you to act as a real estate agent (either as a selling agent and/or a buyer’s agent), and otherwise perform all the functions and activities of a real estate agent in sales or property management – including but not limited to negotiating with clients and vendors, collecting rent, deposits, bond payments and fees related to a lease, licence or contract etc..

But a Class 2 Licence holder cannot open or manage a trust account, or act as the Licensee in Charge of an agency.

A Class 1 Real Estate Agent Licence allows you to carry out the same authorised activities as a Class 2 licence holder, PLUS act as a licensee in charge, work for yourself as an independent agent, and open and authorise trust account transactions.

The Class 1 Licence is the highest real estate licence issued by NSW Fair Trading. You need to complete a CPP51122 – Diploma of Property (Agency Management) and hold a Class 2 Licence for at least 2 years before you can apply for the Class 1 Licence.

How long does it take to complete a course?

The great thing about doing your real estate course NSW with Validum Institute is that you are able to do the course at your pace, in your own time, to suit your schedule.

Assistant Agent (Certificate of Registration) course – you have 6 months starting from the day we send you your login details.
CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (Class 2 Agent) – you have 12 months starting from the day we send you your login details. * CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (NSW Class 2 Agent) coming soon.

You must submit all your Assessments 14 days before your Course Expiry Date to allow for marking and any resubmissions.

Unless prior arrangements have been made with Validum, we will not accept any assessments submitted after 14 days prior to your Course Expiry Date.

Our courses are self-paced, which means that it may not necessarily take you that long to complete your course. The length of time it takes you to complete your course depends on various factors, such as your experience and the amount of time you have available for self-paced study.

The Units of Competency (Units) in our current courses are from the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice qualification.

What do I do after I complete my course?

After you complete real estate courses in Sydney and receive your Statement of Attainment, you can apply to NSW Fair Trading for your Certificate of Registration or licence to enable you to commence work.

What can I do with a Certificate of Registration?

The Certificate of Registration will allow you to work in NSW as an Assistant Agent in real estate sales or property management, stock and station or strata management. As an Assistant Agent you must be employed by a licence holder and supervised by a licensee in charge.

A Certificate of Registration is issued by NSW Fair Trading and is issued for a four-year term and is not renewable. Within the four-year period Certificate of Registration holders must complete the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice qualification and progress to a Class 2 licence.

What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

I recently completed the full real estate license course with Validum Institute and am pleased with my choice after extensive online research. The course was affordably priced compared to other RTOs and offered entirely online, providing flexibility. The learning materials were organized into clusters, each focusing on different aspects of real estate practice. These included reading materials, videos, templates for various real estate forms, and links to relevant websites, all presented in an easy-to-understand format.Assessments comprised multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions, form completions, and role-plays simulating real-world scenarios, such as vendor interactions, conducting CMAs, and presenting to the RTA conciliator and the QCAT.I found the role-plays particularly challenging, as they tested essential skills required of a real estate agent. Despite the difficulty, I found these exercises were practical and beneficial for real-world application.Additionally, the assessors provided remarkably prompt feedback on assessments. The Cert came to my email very quick as well.The negative part: sometimes the assessment webpage has technical issues, such as the mouse pointer not being able to move to certain points where I want it to go or highlight the words I didn't want and delete together.Overall, my experience with Validum Institute was positive, and I would recommend this course to anyone seeking to be a real estate agent in QLD.

I have to say, I was skeptical about using another training provider outside of REIQ but I wasn't disappointed! The fee was nearly half of REIQ, the modules were thorough and in depth and the portal is so user friendly! The team at Validum definitely make it fun to learn! Victor was super helpful and nothing is a problem for him. I was enrolled in the self-pace online method because I thought I can do it after hours. After 3 weeks into the course, I was finding it hard to knock it off so I decided to switch it to 1:1 face-to-face session to complete the rest of the clusters. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. The private 1:1 session was interactive, helpful and it allowed me to ask any questions. Abraham was my mentor, he not only helped me to complete the course he gave me valuable advice on how to be best agent and communicate like a pro.Thanks guys for an enjoyable learning experience. To be honest it was worth every dollar I paid for the online course.I was expecting to get this certificate done as soon as possible to jump in to the field and thanks to the quick assement and process, I managed to receive the Certificate of Registration in less than a week.There is no single reason to not go ahead with Validum since it has all the information and prompt feedback/assessment system, most importantly their website was easy to use as if a 6 year old can utilize it.The questions/tasks were very straight forward and the information that I had to find in regards to the all the questions were key important.I give much appreciation to my assessor and the Validum team for all the prompt support.Wish you all a continous great success!

I am a very time poor multi-business owner and struggled to get this course complete, but the Validum team were exceptional in assisting me to get this done including setting up a day for me to do one on one training with an assessor to complete the rest of the course.
